Named after the 17th-century Italian player Gioachino Greco. A bishop and a queen or rook mate a castled king down the open h-file.
How it works (spoiler)
Named for Gioachino Greco. The bishop controls the corner escape square from afar, the king’s own pawn blocks the rest, and the queen mates down the open file. A rook can deliver the same mate, which is why it is also called the h-file mate.
