Légal's mate
Named after the 18th-century French master Kermur Sire de Légal. Three minor pieces combine against a king that has been drawn out into the centre.
How it works (spoiler)
The king on e7 is boxed in by its own queen, bishop and pawn. The bishop on f7 covers e8 and e6, the e5 knight guards d7 and protects the bishop, and the other knight mates from d5, taking away f6 as well.
